Abstract
This study highlights the correlation between national integration and Democratic stability in a Complex Country like Nigeria. The study examines the nexus between Northern and Southern political dichotomy and the way out of such a dilemma. It has been rightly observed from the first democratic experiment through the fourth that Nigeria has not had a stable polity. Nigeria is a country with diversified historical background which has hindered national cohesion. To worsen things, the fragmentation and fractionalization of our political elites due mainly to cultural differences is a case in point. The problem of Nigeria is that we are not yet able to blend unity with diversity. Nigerians are more involved in ethnic politics. The only viable option now is to operate the real federal system of government with devolution of power. Let us love one another so that we can build an egalitarian society free from social malaise. Let us avoid discrimination on the ground of ethnic affinity. Let us live together and banish ethnicity from our mentality. National integration should be vigorously pursued and we should sincerely reflect federal character and quota system in admission to tertiary institutions, employment in public civil service and political appointments. The federal government should establish the Multiculturalism Commission which will serve as a research centre
for the problems of National Integration and proffer solution.
